Thanks to Allah, Alhamdulillah, the day came when I submitted the application to perform Hajj in 2012. Just after a couple of days, the travel agent gave me the confirmation news. I can't forget that moment because I was being chosen for the journey of lifetime. With this a spate of questions bumped into my mind that how to perform this religious activity, what are the Hajj rituals, how to be there and with which things and a lot more. So, right then I started to do the research dreadfully. I purchased a few books on Hajj by Dar-us-Salam publishers. Meanwhile I started to grab information from internet about what to take on Hajj from homeland.

So, the first thing I have compiled for myself, is a list of things that I would take on Hajj and I also desperately want to share it with others so that it might be helpful even for those who are embarking on Hajj in 2012.

NOTE: All below information is gathered and consolidated from different forums and websites. I will InshaAllah definitely update this list once I will be back from Hajj and according to my experience :)

What and how much to take! is majorly depends on the luggage weight one is allowed to take and it varies from airline to airline. So before putting a single thing in your Rucksack, its better to inquire about the acceptable luggage weight. After knowing that and according to your needs one should decide what and how much to take.

Following are several items, busted into different categories for easy arrangements.

About Luggage

  • Its better to inquire about the suitcase/bag/rucksack dimensions prior to purchasing and filling it. Airline/Hajj ministry may restrict large luggage because of space complications.
  • Mostly Hujjaj/Pilgrims choose black color for their suitcase, so try to come up with different color for easy and quick recognition. If not possible, then attach some ribbon/tag that can be seen from a few feet away.
  • Backpack/shoulder bag for putting slippers, water bottle, pocket Quran, Dua books and other light food items (like biscuits/dates) once you are in Haram.
  • Rope for bags

  2. How should I organize my Hajj presentation?
I'm making a project about Hajj for World Religions class (I am a Muslim). I decided to make it a powerpoint presentation.

Which order would you suggest that I explain the facts and info? What are the most important things that I should mention, apart from the history with Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh)?

  7. Performing Hajj Tours, both requires a person to possess appropriate finance. Hence any adult Muslim, who is not financially sound or is burdened with debt then he shall not be permitted to perform Hajj. For a person to perform Hajj a set amount of money shall be required, which is why a person with inappropriate funds is not allowed to go for the pilgrim.
